Everything you need to know about using your free online till system
โ Back to Till SystemGetting started is simple:
All data is saved automatically in your browser, so you can close and reopen the page without losing anything.
Yes! Mini EPOS is completely free to use with no hidden fees, subscriptions, or trial periods. It's a browser-based tool designed for small businesses who need a simple, effective point-of-sale system without the cost of traditional EPOS software.
Mini EPOS works on all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. For the best experience, we recommend using the latest version of your browser. The system is also fully responsive and works on tablets and smartphones.
Go to the Product Management tab, fill in the product name, price, and select a category (Food, Drink, Retail, or Other), then click 'Add Product'. The product will immediately appear in your product list and on the till screen. You can edit or delete products at any time from the product management table.
Mini EPOS includes four default categories:
Each category has a distinct color for easy visual identification on the till screen, helping you find products quickly during busy periods.
Yes! In the Product Management tab, each product has Edit and Delete buttons. Click Edit to modify the product name, price, or category. Click Delete to remove a product (you'll be asked to confirm). Changes take effect immediately on the till screen.
Processing a sale is straightforward:
The cart clears automatically after completing the sale, and the transaction is added to your sales history.
You can apply two types of discounts:
Discounts are applied to the subtotal before VAT is calculated. Select the discount type from the dropdown and enter the value - the total updates automatically. Choose "No discount" to remove any applied discount.
Toggle the VAT switch on the till screen to add 20% VAT to transactions. The system calculates VAT after any discounts are applied. You can see the VAT breakdown in the cart summary. For VAT-registered businesses, remember to keep records of all transactions for HMRC reporting. Export your sales history regularly for accounting purposes.
Yes! Click the 'Clear Cart' button at any time before completing the sale to remove all items and start fresh. Once a sale is completed, it's added to your sales history. You can view and export past transactions, but you cannot edit or delete them from the system.
When completing a sale, you can record it as Card, Cash, or Split Payment. This is for record-keeping only - Mini EPOS doesn't process actual payments or connect to payment terminals. You'll still need a card reader (like SumUp, Square, or Zettle) or cash drawer for physical transactions. The system tracks payment methods in your sales reports and dashboard.
After completing a sale, click the 'Print Receipt' button to open a printer-friendly receipt. You can print using any connected printer or save as PDF. The receipt includes your business details (customizable in the system), itemized products, quantities, prices, discounts, VAT, and total amount paid.
Mini EPOS shows the total amount due but doesn't calculate change. When accepting cash, you'll need to calculate change manually or use a calculator. Record the payment method as "Cash" when completing the sale. Consider keeping a physical cash count sheet alongside the system for end-of-day reconciliation.
All your data (products, sales history, and settings) is stored locally in your browser using localStorage. This means:
Important: Clearing browser data will delete all stored information. Always export your sales history as backup.
Regular backups are essential:
Store backup files safely on your computer, cloud storage (Dropbox, Google Drive), or external drive.
Each device stores its own data locally in the browser. To sync products between devices, export your product list from one device and import it on another. Sales history is device-specific, so you'll need to export and consolidate reports from each device you use. This is ideal if you have separate tills or use different devices at different events.
Clearing browser cache or cookies will delete all stored data, including products and sales history. This is why regular exports are crucial. If you accidentally clear your data, you can restore products by importing a previous export file. Sales history can only be recovered from CSV export files.
Yes! The Dashboard tab shows today's key metrics:
The Sales History tab provides a detailed record of all completed transactions with timestamps, itemized details, and payment methods.
In the Sales History tab, click 'Export CSV' to download a spreadsheet file containing all your transactions. The CSV file includes date, time, products sold, quantities, prices, discounts, VAT, totals, and payment methods. Open it in Excel, Google Sheets, or accounting software for further analysis.
Currently, Mini EPOS provides transaction-level reporting. To analyze product performance, export your sales history to CSV and use spreadsheet software to create pivot tables or charts showing top-selling items, revenue by category, or sales trends over time.
